FCT Teachers’ Strike: ASUSS Directs Members to Resume Classes Despite NUT Action
The Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), FCT chapter, has rejected the indefinite strike declared by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT). It directed secondary school teachers and education officers under its membership to report to work and continue normal duties. ASUSS said the strike was premature and could further disrupt learning for students. It asked parents and guardians to send their children to school, while directing principals, vice-principals and education officers to keep schools open and monitor attendance. The union said concerns over vacancies, promotions and the redeployment of education agency directors should be resolved through dialogue and administrative processes. It added that the 2025 and 2026 promotion exercises would run together under the FCT Civil Service Commission. ASUSS also urged eligible education officers to participate in the scheduled promotion examinations and called on all parties to prioritise students while resolving the dispute.
