NBA Denounces Sexual Violence Against Women at Ozoro’s Alue-Do Festival

The Nigerian Bar Association has strongly condemned the alleged sexual assaults on women during the recent Alue-Do Festival in Uruamudhu Community, Ozoro Kingdom. Viral videos showed groups of men chasing, stripping, and harassing young women in broad daylight. The NBA called the incident a national disgrace and a collapse of our collective conscience. In a joint statement signed by NBA President Afam Osigwe and NBA Women’s Forum Chairperson Huwaila Muhammad, the association demanded swift identification, arrest, and prosecution of all perpetrators. They stressed that no tradition or custom can justify such cruelty; this is criminal, not culture. The NBA also urged the Delta State Government, law enforcement, community leaders, and festival organisers to safeguard women’s dignity, uphold human rights, and ensure justice without delay or exception.
