Rivers CP Suspends Oyigbo DPO Over ₦500K Extortion Allegation
The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, has removed the Divisional Police Officer in Oyigbo over claims of extorting ₦500,000 from a detainee held without any known offence. A rights activist posted proof of payment and alleged the officer pressed unfounded child-theft charges against a woman during a dispute with her estranged husband, leading to her remand in a custodial centre. ASP Blessing Agabe, the state command’s spokesperson, confirmed receipt of the complaints. She said the removal aims to clear the way for a transparent, impartial probe and assured the public the investigation will be thorough and unbiased.
