Presidency Calls Peter Obi’s Supporters “Tigers of Social Media”

The presidency has described Peter Obi’s followers as the “tigers of social media.” Special Adviser Daniel Bwala said online platforms now allow direct criticism of leaders. Bwala noted that many of Obi’s supporters live abroad where data is cheaper. Others in Nigeria work in tech and shape online discussions. He said this group stands out for its influence. When asked if he pays people to defend the government online, he firmly denied it. “If I was a paying type,” he said, “I would have sold my family land to defend against the agenda cooked against me.”

Why do you think the presidency felt the need to label Peter Obi's supporters as "tigers of social media"? What's driving that choice?

Labeling activists as tigers of social media seems more like political branding than genuine analysis of online engagement trends.

I no dey buy this whole "tigers of social media" angle. It feels like a distraction from pressing issues on the ground.

Campaign teams should focus on data-driven strategies that reflect local realities instead of relying on catchy labels to rally online supporters.
