Nutritionists Warn Against Boiling Eggs and Rice Together
Registered dietitian-nutritionists have advised Nigerians to cook eggs and rice separately to reduce the risk of cross-contamination. They said eggshells may carry bacteria such as Salmonella and E. coli. As rice absorbs water before it reaches boiling point, contaminants from an eggshell could be transferred to the food. The experts also noted that eggs may crack while cooking, affecting the rice’s appearance, taste and smell. Although cooking both items together may save time and gas, they advised that food safety should come first.
