Maradona Death Trial Paused Over Alleged Mix-Up in Kidney Test Evidence
A court in Argentina has suspended the trial over Diego Maradona’s death after defence lawyers questioned whether kidney test results submitted as evidence belonged to the football icon or to his late father. Seven healthcare workers are facing criminal-negligence charges over the care Maradona received after brain surgery in 2020. The case had already been restarted after the original trial was annulled when a judge was linked to a secret documentary about the proceedings. The court will reconvene on August 27 to verify the source of the medical tests. Prosecutors insist the disputed evidence will not undermine their case, while the defence argues that a confirmed mix-up could weaken the medical assessment of Maradona’s final days.
