FIFA Hands Themba Zwane Three-Game Ban After Red Card
South Africa midfielder Themba Zwane has been suspended for three matches following a straight red card in their 2-0 loss to Mexico at the Azteca Stadium. A VAR review showed Zwane raised his arm on Roberto Alvarado in the 84th minute, which FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee deemed serious foul play. While a red card usually carries a one-match ban, the Committee added two extra games. Coach Hugo Broos questioned the decision, calling it “too soft” despite accepting South Africa’s earlier dismissal. Bafana Bafana can appeal the ruling and will look to bounce back when they face the Czech Republic in Atlanta later this week.
