14-Year-Old Dies as Search Continues for Child Swept Away in Yobe River
A 14-year-old boy, Goni Mustapha, has died after he and another child were swept away by a river in Dapchi, Bursari Local Government Area of Yobe State. The incident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. on Sunday at Unguwar Bulama Alhaji Ahmadu. Emergency teams, local government officials and local divers began a search-and-rescue operation after the children were reported missing. Mustapha's body was recovered from the water at about 5:00 p.m. Search efforts were still ongoing for the second child. Residents have been urged to keep children away from swollen rivers and streams, especially during the rainy season.
