Bakare Warns NBBF Stakeholders Against Choosing Leaders on Short-Term Funding
Former D’Tigers coach Ayodele Bakare has urged Nigerian basketball stakeholders to prioritise proven grassroots development and administrative experience as they prepare to elect a new Nigeria Basketball Federation leadership. Bakare said the sport should not repeat what he considers mistakes made during the emergence of the outgoing board. He warned against allowing recent financial interventions, clinics and tournaments to outweigh a candidate’s long-term contribution to basketball. He argued that the next NBBF president should have a strong record of supporting young players, understanding the realities faced by athletes and earning international respect in sports administration. Bakare said stakeholders must consider the long-term direction of Nigerian basketball rather than short-term benefits.
