UN Report: Hamas Carried Out Public Executions and Maiming in Gaza
A United Nations human rights report finds that Hamas operatives and police units in Gaza publicly executed, beat and maimed dozens of Palestinians during the recent conflict with Israel. The report details 249 cases from August 2024 to January 2026, including kneecapping, bone-breaking and executions framed as punishments for alleged collaboration, looting or rival affiliations. Many incidents were publicized or video-recorded to instill fear. The commission attributes nearly a quarter of the documented cases—108 deaths—to Hamas-affiliated forces, with others linked to different armed groups. The report also criticizes a surge in violence by Israeli settlers in the West Bank, describing it as part of a broader policy to entrench settlements, annex territory and displace Palestinians.
