FG Halts New Digital Platform Regulations Pending National Policy Review
The Federal Government has halted the enforcement of recent regulations on internet platforms and digital intermediaries. The directive came from the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy after a strategic meeting with the NCC, NITDA and NDPC. Agencies must maintain the current framework while a harmonised national policy is developed. Existing rules remain if they align with the ministry’s policy direction. This pause addresses overlapping mandates in telecommunications, AI, online safety and data governance. A joint technical coordination committee will oversee stakeholder consultations and draft recommendations for a unified governance framework. The aim is to boost investment, spur innovation and strengthen consumer confidence in Nigeria’s digital economy.
