A German Cup first-round derby between Waldhof Mannheim and Kaiserslautern was halted for about 30 minutes after violence erupted among supporters. Police said 85 people received treatment and eight were taken to hospital. Thirty-five police officers were among those injured after officers intervened on the pitch to restore order. The match resumed and went into extra time, where Ibrahim Kanate scored in the 120th minute to secure a 1-0 victory for Kaiserslautern. Nearly 1,400 officers had been deployed because authorities had classified the fixture as high risk.
