Dimeji Lawal Blames Super Eagles’ 3-0 Loss on ‘Overhyped’ Players

Former Nigeria international Dimeji Lawal has criticised the Super Eagles after their 3-0 loss to Guinea-Bissau in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers. Lawal said Nigeria places too much emphasis on recruiting foreign-born players who may not be prepared for the physical demands of African football. He argued that past Super Eagles stars combined local African football experience with exposure in Europe. Guinea-Bissau moved top of Group L with six points after goals from Franculino Dju, Mama Baldé and Álvaro Djaló. Nigeria remain second on three points and will host Tanzania in Uyo on November 11.
