Two Police Officers Killed in Fresh Ambush in Benue, Days After Earlier Attack
Two newly deployed Mobile Police officers have been killed in an ambush near Ayilamo community in Benue State. The officers were reportedly travelling to meet the Divisional Police Officer, who was returning to the community from Makurdi on Monday evening. The attack came days after another assault in Ayilamo reportedly killed four Mobile Police officers and seven civilians. This brings the reported number of police officers killed in the community within three days to six. Benue Police spokesperson DSP Peter Aondongu confirmed that two officers were killed. Residents said suspected armed attackers were believed to be moving through nearby forests and abandoned settlements, and called for sustained security operations in the area.
