Troops Rescue Man from Mob Over Alleged Attack on Plateau Schoolgirl
Security troops from Operation Enduring Peace Sector 1 intervened after an angry mob in Bassa Local Government Area tried to lynch a suspect. The 25-year-old man was accused of attempting to sexually assault a student of Government Secondary School, Bassa, at a hotel in Agyingi around 3:00 p.m. on May 20. Local youths overpowered the suspect before troops arrived. The soldiers restored calm and rescued him from mob action. They later handed him over to the Keystone Division in Bassa for further investigation. Authorities say the swift response prevented further violence and helped maintain order in the community.
