What Must Change in Delta State’s Public Schools Before 2027?

A child can attend school every day and still leave without discovering their strengths or gaining the skills needed for the future. Education should go beyond passing examinations. Students should be able to think critically, communicate clearly, solve problems, use technology and understand the world around them. However, the learning experience is not equal across Delta State. While some urban schools have laboratories, learning materials and trained teachers, many rural and riverine communities struggle with basic facilities and support. Yet every child is expected to compete for the same opportunities. As Delta approaches 2027, we need a serious conversation about what every public school student should be guaranteed. Should the priority be better teachers, functional laboratories, digital learning, vocational training, or stronger reading and mathematics skills? What single change would make the biggest difference for education in Delta State?
