Ogun NYSC Inspector Arrested After Corps Member’s Death from Abortion Complications

An NYSC official in Ogun State, Abass Olalekan, was arrested after Victoria Ariyo, a female corps member serving in Abeokuta South LGA, died from complications following an abortion last Tuesday. Her remains were interred at Kobape Cemetery in Abeokuta. Reports say Ariyo’s death came a month after another corps member, Adeleye Mary, died under mysterious circumstances. Mary was attached to Ogun State Television as her Place of Primary Assignment, and the two women were friends, according to sources. The police allege that Olalekan, the Local Government Inspector, was romantically involved with Ariyo and may have been implicated in arranging the abortion. He is currently in custody at the state command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta. The investigation is ongoing, says DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi of the Nigerian Police Force.
