Edward “Eddie” DeBartolo Jr is an American businessman best known as the former owner of the San Francisco 49ers. He owned the NFL team from 1977 to 2000, a period in which the 49ers won five Super Bowls under coaches Bill Walsh and George Seifert. Born on November 6, 1946, in Youngstown, Ohio, DeBartolo also built his career in commercial real estate through his family’s development business. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016 as a contributor. His record also includes a 1998 corruption case involving former Louisiana governor Edwin Edwards. DeBartolo pleaded guilty to failing to report a felony, received a $1 million fine and two years’ probation, and was later pardoned by President Donald Trump in 2020.
