Union Pickets Abuja Continental Hotel Over Alleged Unfair Labour Practices

Operations at Abuja Continental Hotel were disrupted on Monday as members of the Hotel and Personal Service Senior Staff Association picketed the premises. The union, an affiliate of the Trade Union Congress, alleged unfair labour practices, poor working conditions and resistance to the unionisation of hotel workers. Protesters arrived at the hotel gates from about 6am with placards and blocked the entrance. The action was led by TUC General Secretary Nuhu Toro, who said the disruption would continue until the union's demands are addressed. Some hotel staff also displayed banners opposing the call for unionisation.
