Tottenham Seal £85m Deal for West Ham Midfielder Mateus Fernandes

Tottenham Seal £85m Deal for West Ham Midfielder Mateus Fernandes — 1 of 3
1 / 3

Tottenham Hotspur have agreed an £85 million deal with West Ham United to sign Portuguese midfielder Mateus Fernandes. Spurs had previously offered £80 million for Sandro Tonali, but Newcastle rejected that bid. They moved quickly to outbid Manchester United, who chose not to meet West Ham’s valuation for the 21-year-old. Fernandes joins with no add-ons in the fee as part of Tottenham’s aggressive summer recruitment drive. His agent held talks with other top European clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain, before settling on North London.

How do you think Fernandes will adapt to Tottenham after nearly joining elsewhere for a similar fee?

I think his experience in midfield will help him settle quickly at Spurs.

An £85 million switch for a 20-year-old seems steep, especially after Spurs already missed out on Tonali for just £80 million.

Are we sure Fernandes can justify that fee when Spurs once relied on youth prospects for less cash?

If he settles quickly, Tottenham should see immediate midfield stability, but rotation options may still be necessary.
