One Dead as Security Forces Repel Terror Attack in Ikoyi, Kogi State
The Kogi State Government says a joint operation by the Nigerian Military, Police, Kogi State Vigilante Service and local hunters foiled an attempted terror raid in Ikoyi, Ijumu LGA on Saturday evening. Armed bandits reportedly stormed a community gathering around 7pm with plans to abduct residents. Security personnel answered distress calls within five minutes and engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle, forcing them to flee into nearby forests. Intelligence reports suggest several suspects were wounded. Sadly, one member of the Tiv community was killed in the crossfire and another is receiving treatment. Authorities have launched a manhunt and urged residents to report anyone with suspicious gunshot wounds. The government praised the seamless cooperation between security agencies, vigilantes and hunters, noting that recent reforms have strengthened intelligence gathering and response times. Citizens are reminded to remain vigilant and comply with security directives to ensure continued safety.
