Why Your CV May Be Rejected Before a Recruiter Sees It — And How to Fix It

To improve your chances, use clear section headings such as Professional Experience, Education, Skills and Certifications. Match important keywords from the job description. If a role asks for “data analysis,” include that exact skill where it honestly reflects your experience. Avoid vague phrases, and use measurable results in your bullet points, such as sales growth, project delivery, cost savings or customer numbers. Keep your CV simple and easy to scan. Use a single-column layout, standard fonts and minimal graphics or tables. Save both PDF and Word versions where possible, since some application portals may prefer one format over the other. For entry-level roles, one page may be enough. Professionals with more experience can use two pages. If you are applying in Francophone countries, consider preparing a separate French version of your CV if you are proficient in the language.
