Ogun Communities Protest Alleged Land Allocation to Chinese Investors, Fear Eviction
Residents of Fere and Oniporogun communities in Orile-Mo, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State have appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun to intervene in an alleged land allocation to Chinese investors. They say bulldozers and security personnel were deployed to the disputed site, raising fears that hundreds of families could lose homes, investments and ancestral land. Community leaders insist they support industrial development but want it to proceed without displacing existing residents. The communities claim that more than 300 houses are completed or under construction in the affected area. Residents say many landlords have survey plans, ratification documents, assessments or Certificates of Occupancy, and have asked the government to suspend further action pending consultations with traditional leaders, landlords and the CDA. The Ogun State Bureau of Lands and Survey had not responded to the allegations at the time of the report.
