Activist Seeks Justice for Delta Widow Allegedly Assaulted Over Late Husband’s Property
An activist has called for protection and justice for a widow in Delta State who allegedly suffered assault and harassment from her late husband’s relatives after his sudden death. The 46-year-old hotelier and phone-store owner reportedly slumped during an outing in Udu on June 1 and was later confirmed dead at a hospital. His widow alleges that relatives subsequently demanded documents to his houses and hotel, questioned the paternity of her four children, and accused her of causing his death through spiritual means. The activist said the family allegedly beat the widow and her children, asked her to surrender rent and financial records, and insisted she should pay for an autopsy and DNA tests. He warned that further threats, violence, or attempts to seize the family’s property could lead to legal action.
