Baale of Ajebowale Orugbo Accuses Impersonator of Land Grabbing and Extortion
High Chief Alakada Oluwatoyin, the Baale of Ajebowale Orugbo community, says Jamiu Ogunlaro has been impersonating him to extort residents and seize landed properties. He claims Ogunlaro uses forged receipts and false identity cards to terrorize locals into selling their land. According to the Baale, Ogunlaro alleges his father holds long-term leases over multiple plots, but the lease expired decades ago and remains unpaid. The community’s legal team has written to Ogunlaro’s family demanding outstanding dues since 1996, leading to ongoing court proceedings. A member of the Ogunlaro family and one of his alleged victims, Olasumbo, say Ogunlaro’s associates have issued threats, carried out violent attacks and even enlisted some police officers to harass community members. They insist Ogunlaro’s land claims have no legal basis. Jamiu Ogunlaro denies all allegations, insists he never claimed chieftaincy or extorted anyone, and says he is the one under attack. He notes that multiple cases are already before the courts and trusts the judiciary to resolve the matter.
