NLC Urges Tinubu to Cushion Nigerians as Petrol Reaches ₦1,430 Per Litre
The Nigeria Labour Congress has asked President Bola Tinubu to take urgent steps to reduce the hardship caused by rising petrol prices. The union said petrol now sells for about ₦1,430 per litre in major cities, with higher prices reported in less accessible areas. NLC President Joe Ajaero said higher transport costs would push up food prices, rent, school fees and other essential expenses. He warned that the increase was further weakening workers’ wages and household incomes. The labour centre called for immediate wage awards, more crude oil sales in naira to local refineries and expanded national fuel storage. It also urged the Federal Government to consider emergency support for citizens despite the deregulation policy.
