FG Plans Emergency Assessment as Erosion Threatens Naval Base and NNPC Jetty in Calabar
The Federal Government says it will begin a joint technical assessment of severe erosion linked to the failed Channel 2 underground drainage system on Anansa Road, Calabar. Officials say the damage has disrupted economic activity, affected nearby communities and raised concerns over the safety of NNS Victory and an NNPC jetty that supports energy operations. The Ecological Project Office, Cross River State Ministry of Environment, naval authorities and technical agencies are expected to assess drainage failure, waterway conditions and erosion patterns before recommending long-term remedial work. The intervention is also expected to consider support for affected fishermen, youths and families.
