Rivers Police Raid Port Harcourt Clinic Over Newborn Theft and Baby Trafficking
The Rivers State police have uncovered a private clinic in Port Harcourt where newborns are trafficked after mothers are told their babies died. Undercover officers exposed a scheme in which babies delivered at the facility were secretively taken and sold, while grieving mothers were deceived into believing their infants had passed away. During the raid, investigators found an embalmed infant in the office of the unlicensed medical director, 66-year-old Elizabeth Obot. She admitted charging clients up to ₦3 million to “rent” a deceased baby for women staging fake pregnancies. Police have urged anyone who lost a child at this clinic to come forward. They also advised expectant mothers to have a relative present in delivery rooms and to ensure windows in maternity wards are secured.
