A Taxi Driver’s Alleged Ghost Encounter in Lagos
I laughed at my original headline before settling down to write this. I share stories like this for people who doubt that there may be more to life than what we can see. In 2000, while travelling from Berger to Murtala Muhammed Airport, I spoke with a taxi driver who told me why he stopped picking up women on the road at night. He said he had picked up a woman on Toyin Street and they argued over the amount she requested. After a long dispute, he gave her some of the money he had made that day, and she got out of the car. According to him, he saw the same woman waiting at the next bus stop. He said he saw her again at another stop, and then a third time, where she smiled and waved at him. The experience frightened him deeply, and he said he never picked up another woman on the road after that night. This is the first of two encounters I want to share. The second happened to a close friend and will follow in the next part.
