Ebonyi Assembly Orders Crackdown on Illegal Motor Parks in Abakaliki

Ebonyi Assembly Orders Crackdown on Illegal Motor Parks in Abakaliki

The Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Transport has directed the Ministry of Transport to intensify enforcement against illegal motor parks in Abakaliki. The committee said unauthorised parks and roadside “pick and drop” operations undermine the city’s beautification efforts and reduce internally generated revenue. Commercial drivers were urged to return to government-approved parks. The Transport Commissioner said the state has four approved parks: Akanu Ibiam Park, Ezeogo Igboke Ewa Central Park, EBOTRANS Park at Nwokpo Junction, and Ishieke Park. He added that an inter-ministerial committee has begun moves to shut illegal parks, while the ministry is introducing identification for legitimate traffic personnel to curb extortion.
