Ebonyi Police Deny Claim That Terror Group Kidnapped Over 100 Izzi Residents
The Ebonyi State Police Command has dismissed social-media claims that a new terror group is holding more than 100 people captive in Izzi Local Government Area. Police said the report stemmed from a July 28 complaint by a man whose three brothers failed to return after leaving home to watch a football match. He later received a message from a group calling itself “Bloody Vampires,” demanding $5 million from the state government within 62 hours. The command said its investigation traced activity linked to the threatening phone number to the area around the Ogun State Correctional Centre. Police also found a similar alleged extortion attempt involving another victim. The command described reports of mass kidnappings in Izzi as false and exaggerated, adding that investigations are continuing to identify those responsible.
