NFF Launches Appeal After FIFA Dismisses DR Congo Eligibility Petition
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has filed an appeal after FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee rejected its petition to disqualify DR Congo from the World Cup qualifiers. The petition alleged that DR Congo fielded ineligible players by obtaining passports through perceived fraud. Nigeria lost to DR Congo on penalties (4-3) following a 1-1 draw in extra time in Rabat, Morocco. DR Congo will now represent Africa in the intercontinental playoff in Mexico later this month. NFF Secretary General Mohammed Sanusi confirmed that the federation has formally begun the appeal process. The NFF said it remains committed to ensuring fair play as it awaits the final outcome ahead of the playoffs.
