Paul Merson Questions Manchester United’s £50m Move for Andrey Santos
Paul Merson has questioned Manchester United’s reported £50 million signing of Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos, saying he is unsure what the Brazilian would add to Michael Carrick’s midfield. United are rebuilding after Casemiro’s exit and have also added Youri Tielemans, while reportedly pursuing Carlos Baleba. Merson believes Tielemans and Bruno Fernandes need a stronger ball-winning midfielder alongside them. Former United midfielder Paul Ince also criticised the fee for Santos, arguing that the move could limit opportunities for academy prospect Kobbie Mainoo. The club’s midfield rebuild will now be judged by whether it brings greater balance and stability.
