TotalEnergies and AMNI Approve $800 Million Investment in Nigeria’s Ima Gas Field
TotalEnergies and its Nigerian partner, AMNI, have approved a final investment decision to develop the offshore Ima gas field near Bonny Island. The project is expected to start production in 2028 and deliver up to 350 million cubic feet of gas daily. The gas will be transported to Nigeria LNG and is expected to provide about one-third of the supply needed for the Train 7 expansion. Nigeria LNG’s expansion is projected to raise its liquefaction capacity from 22 million to 30 million metric tonnes annually. The investment could strengthen Nigeria’s gas exports and increase revenue from the sector. I see this as a positive step for the country, especially as the gas field had remained undeveloped for decades. Nigerians stand to benefit if the project is completed as planned and its proceeds are managed transparently.
