Journalist Seeks ₦570,000 Refund After Ikorodu Apartment Dispute
A journalist has petitioned the police over an alleged tenancy dispute involving a room-and-parlour apartment in Adamo, Ikorodu, Lagos. He said he paid ₦570,000 through an estate agent for rent, agency fees, agreement, caution deposit, security and cleaning. He alleged that the agent gave him keys and allowed him to move belongings into the apartment before access to the premises was later blocked over an alleged electricity-related disagreement. The tenant said he also spent money on solar installation, painting and carpentry work before discovering that the gate to the apartment had been padlocked. He is demanding a refund of all payments made for the property. According to the petition, the agent signed an undertaking at the police station to refund the money but had not done so at the time of the report. The agent was also said to be unreachable by the police.
