NDC Alleges Benue Governor’s Aide Led Blockade of Peter Obi’s Yelwata Visit
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has alleged that an aide to Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia led a group that prevented its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, from entering Yelwata to visit families affected by recent killings. The party said Obi arrived in Benue at about 9 a.m. to mourn with victims’ families, offer solidarity and hear from residents after reports that more than 270 people were killed. According to the NDC, the convoy was stopped by people chanting, “Peter Obi, go back.” The NDC called for an investigation and urged security agencies to identify those responsible. The Benue State Government has denied any involvement, saying it was not informed of Obi’s visit and should not be linked to the incident.
