FG Opens Six-Month Teacher Certification Programme for BSc, HND and ND Holders
The Federal Government has opened applications for the first batch of the Accelerated Teacher Professionalisation Pathway (ATPP). The six-month programme targets Nigerians already teaching without formal professional teaching qualifications. The initiative is being implemented by the Federal Ministry of Education with the National Teachers’ Institute and the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria. Applications close on September 18, 2026. Applicants must have at least 24 months of classroom teaching experience. BSc and HND holders in non-education fields can apply for the Postgraduate Diploma in Education pathway, while ND and OND holders can apply for the Professional Diploma in Education pathway. Both routes include coursework and supervised teaching practice. Applicants need a NIN, academic certificate, valid email address, phone number and proof of teaching experience. The fee is ₦200,000. Participants who meet the requirements can take the TRCN Professional Qualifying Examination and register as professional teachers.
