13-Year-Old Student Swept Away by Flood in Gwagwalada, Abuja

A 13-year-old Junior Secondary School student of Ihyau El-Burhan Academy in Gwagwalada, Abuja, was swept away by floodwaters while being taken to school by his father on September 9. His father said they were crossing a double-cell culvert on a motorcycle when the floodwater became forceful. The boy reportedly jumped off the motorcycle in fear, fell into the water and was carried away by the current. Residents, fishermen and divers have joined the search. His father said the family hopes to recover his body for burial.
