Sokoto Closes Musa Lukuwa Mosque After Cleric Is Stabbed During Prayers
The Sokoto State Government has closed the Musa Lukuwa Juma’at Mosque in Sokoto metropolis after an Islamic cleric, Malam Musa Ayuba Lukuwa, was reportedly stabbed during Friday prayers last week. The government said the closure will allow security agencies and a committee of Islamic scholars to investigate the attack, identify its cause and recommend measures to prevent further violence. Security personnel have also been deployed around the mosque. Authorities urged residents to remain calm and avoid inflammatory comments that could worsen religious tension. The mosque will reopen after the investigation and safety measures are concluded.
