11 Rescued After Gunmen Abduct NYSC Members, Other Travellers on Kogi Highway
Eleven people, including NYSC members returning to Abuja after completing orientation camp in Bayelsa, have been rescued after gunmen attacked two buses along the Aloma–Egane Expressway in Ofu LGA, Kogi State. Kogi police said the attackers emerged from the bush at about 4:40 p.m. on Wednesday, blocked vehicles near the Ogene Zaria–Onicha-Igo Junction and took some passengers away. Others reportedly escaped into the bush. Security operatives recovered two abandoned buses and launched a search operation. Police said 11 victims, including the drivers, have been rescued. The operation continues to locate any remaining captives and arrest the attackers. The incident has renewed concern over kidnappings on forest-lined highways in Kogi State.
