Muslim Group Condemns Atiku Aide Over Remarks About Kaaba
A Muslim group has condemned remarks attributed to Phrank Shaibu, a media aide to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, about the spiritual significance of the Kaaba in Makkah. The comments were reportedly made on Channels Television’s Politics Today on November 2, while Shaibu was discussing President Bola Tinubu’s recent Umrah visit to Saudi Arabia. The group said the remarks could offend Muslims and urged political figures to discuss religious matters with greater care. It noted that the Kaaba is central to Muslim prayer and the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages. The group also called on political parties and their spokespersons to focus on issues such as governance, insecurity, poverty and national unity, and urged Nigerians to promote religious tolerance ahead of the 2027 elections.
