Delta PPRO Demands Answers After Officer Shoots Restrained Suspect in Effurun
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer has described the shooting of a handcuffed suspect as an “inexplicable tragedy” and one of the hardest moments of his six-year career. A viral video shows 28-year-old Mene Ogidi sitting on the ground with his hands bound behind his back. In it, a plainclothes officer aims his rifle at Ogidi and fires, then loads the lifeless suspect into a police vehicle. Authorities say Ogidi was arrested for allegedly transporting a Beretta pistol and ammunition. The officer in charge, ASP Nuhu Usman, was immediately arrested and transferred to Asaba for disciplinary action. The incident has sparked widespread public outrage and renewed calls for better oversight of police conduct. The force insists it will conduct a transparent investigation and hold anyone who violated protocols accountable.
