Military Launches Peace Football Tournament for Plateau, Southern Kaduna and Bauchi Communities
Operation Enduring Peace has launched the sixth edition of its annual peace football tournament to promote reconciliation among communities in Plateau State, Southern Kaduna and parts of Bauchi State. The competition brings together 32 teams from different communities and institutions. It opened with a match between the University of Jos and Jos North Local Government Area. The task force commander, Major General Maxwell Dangana, said military action alone cannot deliver lasting peace. He urged young people to reject violence, hate speech and political manipulation, while calling for stronger cooperation among security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders and civil society. Plateau State's youth and sports ministry pledged support for the initiative, which organisers say is aimed at rebuilding trust and strengthening community cohesion.
