Power Supply May Improve Within 48–72 Hours, Minister Says
Power Minister Joseph Tegbe says electricity supply may begin to improve within 48 to 72 hours as the Federal Government works to restore generation and transmission capacity. He linked recent outages to maintenance at Egbin Power Station, gas shortages and damage to transmission lines, with some areas experiencing load shedding. The outages have drawn complaints from customers in Lagos and Ogun, among other affected areas, amid hot weather. Tegbe says affected generating units will return to service in phases while operators work to improve gas supply and repair damaged infrastructure. The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has also disputed Ikeja Electric’s explanation for recent interruptions. TCN attributed most of the shortfall to low generation and load shedding, while also citing distribution-network issues and maintenance.
