Customs Seizes 7.6 Tonnes of Cannabis, 170,000 Codeine Bottles and 108 Drones at Apapa Port

The Nigeria Customs Service says it has intercepted prohibited and expired goods in 12 containers at Apapa Port, Lagos. The seizures included 7.6 tonnes of cannabis, 169,998 bottles of codeine syrup and 108 high-definition drones. Customs said 15,245 parcels of cannabis were concealed in three containers among vehicle parts, cars, food items, batteries and fish. Another container allegedly held 1,700 cartons of codeine syrup hidden beneath household goods. Five containers were also found with expired products, including ketchup, antiseptic liquid, vaginal tablets and disposable nappies, as well as 1,282 bales of used clothing. Customs put the combined Duty Paid Value of the consignments at ₦43.59 billion. The agency said the interceptions followed intelligence-sharing and targeted inspections involving the NDLEA, NAFDAC and other security partners. The drones have been handed over for further action because they require relevant import approvals and end-user certificates.
