PeacePro Warns of Disease Outbreaks in North-West IDP Camps
The Foundation for Peace Professionals has warned that internally displaced persons camps in Sokoto, Zamfara and Katsina face growing risks of preventable disease and a wider humanitarian crisis. The group said many families who fled banditry are living in makeshift settlements without enough food, safe water, shelter, sanitation or healthcare. It reported finding more than 30 camps in Sokoto, alongside several settlements in Zamfara and Katsina. PeacePro urged the Federal and state governments, emergency agencies and humanitarian groups to carry out urgent assessments and provide medical care, medicines, clean water and other relief supplies. It said a sustained response is needed to protect displaced families and support their safe return home when security improves.
