22-Year-Old Nabbed for Posing as Policeman After Stealing Uniform in Lagos

22-Year-Old Nabbed for Posing as Policeman After Stealing Uniform in Lagos

According to the Lagos State Police Command, officers arrested 22-year-old Onipede Ojo at the Maryland axis for impersonation. He allegedly stole a camouflage uniform, warrant card, mobile phone and other personal items from an inspector. Residents grew suspicious of his behaviour and detained him. Ojo claimed he found the uniform bearing the name tag of Inspector Jimoh Weheed on Maryland Road. He was handed over to police after a brief interrogation. The command says the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue. He will be charged to court once inquiries conclude. The police praised residents’ vigilance and warned against taking the law into one’s own hands.

What drives someone to risk posing as an officer with stolen uniform and ID in Lagos?

Do we know how he got hold of that uniform and ID before his arrest?

It's odd how he managed to fool residents until his behaviour gave him away near the Maryland axis.

While impersonation is serious, shouldn't we also question how easily someone accessed an inspector's belongings in the first place?

Official departments should implement stricter checks on uniform issuance and locker security to prevent similar impersonation cases.
