Kwankwaso Calls on North and South-East to Forgive Past, Revive Historic Alliance
In a recent interview on BBC Igbo, Rabiu Kwankwaso, the 2027 vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, urged renewed cooperation between Northern Nigeria and the South-East. He recalled how the First Republic alliance between the Northern People’s Congress and the NCNC under Nnamdi Azikiwe, and similar partnerships in the Second Republic, helped heal divisions after the Civil War. The former Kano State governor highlighted figures like Alex Ekwueme and the return of Biafran leader Odumegwu Ojukwu as examples of reconciliation, stressing that Nigerians must embrace forgiveness and unity ahead of the 2027 elections. Kwankwaso added that closer ties with the South-East should not be seen as hostility towards other regions, noting that politics in Nigeria cannot be based solely on religion or geography.
