Kano Court Hands 15-Year Term to 20-Year-Old Over Knife Attack on NDLEA Officers
A Federal High Court in Kano has sentenced 20-year-old Muhammad Maharazu to 15 years in prison for drug offences and attacking NDLEA operatives during his arrest. Maharazu was apprehended on February 14, 2026, at Filin Idi, a known drug den. Officers found illicit substances, including Diazepam tablets, and say he drew a long knife while trying to escape. He was disarmed and held without option of fine. In delivering judgment on April 15, 2026, Justice S.M. Shuaibu affirmed the severe sentence. The NDLEA’s Kano command praised the ruling, noting it underscores that violence will not deter their enforcement efforts.
