Azonsou Vows Benin U-17 Comeback After Narrow 3-2 Loss to Flamingos

Benin U-17 women’s team put up a spirited fight despite falling 3-2 to Nigeria’s Flamingos in the first leg of their 2026 World Cup qualifier. Coach Idah Azonsou praised her players for taking the lead and battling back to 2-2 before conceding the decisive goal. Azonsou admitted that costly defensive lapses proved decisive but insisted the tie remains open. She highlighted the team’s unbeaten home record and said they will work on mistakes ahead of the return leg in Lomé on July 11. "We will correct what went wrong and approach the second leg in much better conditions," Azonsou said. "Everything is still possible. We have another 90 minutes to secure qualification."
